Mary Mac's isn't the only Atlanta restaurant publishing books this year. Murphy's, the beloved Virginia-Highland mainstay, has put out "Murphy's: 25 Years of Recipes and Memories"(Schroder Media, $24.95) to celebrate a quarter-century of being in the business. Restaurateur Tom Murphy and writer Jan Butsch have written a must-have for Atlanta's in-the-know foodies who watched the restaurant grow with the neighborhood. Most of the book is a retelling of Murphy's colorful history through first-person anecdotes. Readers learn how some of Atlanta's best-known cooking talents—Alon Balshan, Shaun Doty, Hector Santiago, Michael Tuohy and Gerry Klaskala—got their start at Murphy's. The last part of the book is a recipe collection from these very chefs. More of a showcase than a practical guide, the recipes highlight each chef's individual tastes and make for a fun read. I might never make Tuohy's fennel soup with nasturtiums and fennel pollen, but, at least, now I know how.

 

Jan Butsch's parenting book, Just a Stage, is a parenting book for mom to read. If you are a new or expecting mom and you want to read a humorous parenting book about children, then this is the parenting book for you. If you want to know you are not alone, read this parenting book. She makes parenting really funny. She also makes parenting fun, even though parenting can be very difficult. She finds the humor in parenting.
