Northside writer publishes columns about parenting Wednesday, February 2, 2005 7:06 PM EST Northsider Jan Butsch Schroder knows a thing or two about parenting. Not only does she have two children, but she is a parenting consultant and she wrote a column about parenting for Buckhead Atlanta Intown Magazine for eight years. She has recently published a book titled "Just a Stage" that talks about parents and children. "The book is compilation of my columns from the past eight years," said Mrs. Schroder. "The book actually started ten years ago." The humorous book is aimed at men and women with young children, teenage children or any in between. The book focuses on funny things that children do from birth to their teenage years, according to Mrs. Schroder. In her book, Mrs. Schroder includes tales about her children, Christopher, 14, and Catherine, 17, as well as tells stories about her friend's children. At the end of each chapter, Mrs. Schroder provides tips or interesting anecdotes. For example, she writes a chapter about creative Halloween costumes for children and adults. Her tips at the end of the chapter have to do with Halloween, like don't spend too much time making a costume because your child might change their mind about what they want to be. Another chapter was written about a Girl Scout campout. At the end of the chapter, she provided quotes from the Girl Scouts about the camping experience. Presently, Mrs. Schroder writes a column for The Story newspaper and is the managing editor for Travelgirl Magazine. Mrs. Schroder's job experience ranges from being the editor of Buckhead Atlanta Intown magazine for five years to being the membership manager for the High Museum of Art. She has also been a freelance writer for 19 years. For more information on Mrs. Schroder's book, "Just a Stage," visit www.janschroder.com.
