CHICAGO HEALTHCARE PROJECT TARGETS LEED CERTIFICATION

Perkins+Will Design for Rush Medical Center is First in Chicago

CHICAGO, May 29, 2007 - SPerkins+Will, a leader in sustainable architecture and design, is pleased to announce the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) registration of the new hospital building project at Rush University Medical Center. LEED certification recognizes leading-edge sustainable design, and Rush University Medical Center is one of the first medical facilities in Chicago to seek this designation.

"We're proud to partner with Rush University Medical Center on a benchmark project that reflects our shared commitment to excellence and sustainability," said Jim Zajac, Chicago Healthcare Market Sector Leader at Perkins+Will.

Currently in the schematic design phase, the new Rush University Medical Center building will incorporate a variety of innovative sustainable design elements. The shape and orientation of the building will maximize day lighting and reduce heat gain; and the reflective roof and paving are intended to reduce the "heat island" effect. A number of mechanical strategies, along with the glazing selection and configuration, will optimize energy-efficiency. Materials choices will promote healthy indoor air quality. Plans also include a park-like garden with water-efficient landscaping at the midpoint of the building, designed to provide a quiet, meditative retreat for patients and visitors.

"As with all Perkins+Will projects, the design of Rush University Medical Center reflects a respect for the environment - outdoors and inside the building," said Zajac. "This building truly honors Chicago's mission as a sustainable city."

Established in 1935, Perkins+Will (www.perkinswill.com) is an integrated architecture, interiors, and planning practice recognized as the preeminent sustainable design firm in the country. Perkins+Will has the highest number of LEED ® Accredited Professionals in North America (ranked by Building Design & Construction magazine), with over 750 of the firm's 1,000 professionals accredited.

The U.S. Green Building Council's LEED rating system is a feature-oriented rating system where building projects earn credits for satisfying specified green building criteria. For more information visit www.usgbc.org.
