BRAD CUNARD'S FIRST RADIO INTERVIEW SINCE ACCIDENT

Brad Cunard, the Virginia-Highland resident whose wife and two children were tragically killed by a fallen tree on July 10, appeared on All The Hits Q100's The Bert Show this morning on what was supposed to be a brief chat with Bert about the playground being built in memory of Brad's wife, Lisa and sons, Max and Owen. Instead, Brad remained on the show for two hours, with listeners calling in offering support and donations for the playground. In just one hour, Q100 helped raise the remaining $30,000 needed to build the playground, and in the next hour, they raised $30,000 more. When told of the total tally, Brad said on air, “We can buy more equipment!”

Fundraising efforts continue today when the Whole Foods Market location at 650 Ponce de Leon in Midtown will be donating five percent of its day's net sales to the Cunard Memorial Fund. Operating hours this day are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. “Whole Foods Market is committed to our immediate community, so tying in this special day with the Virginia-Highland neighborhood is extremely rewarding to us,” said Darrah Horgan, Whole Foods Market Marketing Director.

Brad will speak with the media at a 2 p.m. press conference at Whole Foods today.

This weekend, more than 100 neighbors are expected to help build the playground. Twenty-five members of Cub Scout Pack #17, based at Haygood Methodist Church, are camping out Friday and Saturday night with their parents to provide security

For Saturday's build-out, Brad Cunard will be on hand, but will not speak to the press. Instead, family spokespeople Lisa Cunard Harper (sister of Brad) and Bill Kolinger (Lisa's brother) will be available for comment. Neighbors plan to construct the new playground beginning at 7am and continuing throughout the day. Rain date is Saturday, November 22. For contact info on Saturday only , these two cell phones are suggested: Cynthia Gentry (fundraising chair), 404.210.9188, or Jesse Pompei, (Schroder PR), 404.272.5162.
