Stephen Adkins
Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President

Stephen AdkinsStephen Adkins is the architect of Rubicon's products and systems. He leads his team in developing a vision and direction for the software – designing and writing the software, designing the databases, determining how the software is to be tested, installed, and operated, selecting third party software, specifying the hardware and networking infrastructure, and seeing that it all works together in a rapidly advancing set of application functionality.

Prior to joining Rubicon, Adkins was founder and CTO of a firm that consulted in implementing web-based Application Service Provider (ASP) solutions. Before that, Adkins worked as a Systems Architect, Director of Product Development, Manager of Operations Research, and Systems Development Project Manager at Talus Solutions, a revenue management consulting firm. There, he built revenue management systems for airlines, hotel companies, and rental car companies, including National Car Rental, Marriott Hotels and Delta Airlines. He has also worked at Hewlett Packard and Westinghouse Bellambie in Johannesburg, South Africa in software development, sales support, and customer service.

In 1993, Stephen joined Aeronomics Incorporated, a Revenue Management consulting and systems development company. He helped pioneer new, higher performing software designs for highly mathematical demand forecasting and pricing and inventory optimization. Among others, he built Revenue Management Systems for National Car Rental, Marriott Hotels, and Delta Airlines. In addition to his development, architect, and project manager roles, he also was Manager of Operations Research and Director of Product Development.

By 2000, Stephen was convinced that custom development of large projects was far too expensive and risky a way to deliver software functionality to business customers. The rise of the worldwide web presented an opportunity for a new model of computer service company, the Application Service Provider (ASP), to deliver systems at far lower cost, greater implementation speed, and lower risk. In April, 2000, he started his own ASP company. Later, Stephen consulted with The Rubicon Group and helped them quickly deploy a competitive rate analysis system, called MarketVision™ as a subscription-based web Application Service.

Stephen Adkins holds an MBA from Georgetown University and a BS and MS in Aeronautics and Astronautics from M.I.T.
